End of Season Reflection: Questions to Maximize Next Year’s Success

Last month, we shared a set of questions to help you evaluate each individual race. Want to improve? Start by carefully reviewing every race. This month, with the season wrapping up for most of us, let’s take it a step further. It’s time to look at the bigger picture and evaluate your season as a whole.

Here’s a series of questions designed to help you reflect on your entire season, so you can uncover valuable lessons and set yourself up for an even better year ahead. Take it slow, be thorough, and make every insight count!

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. What was your best race and why?
  2. What was your worst race and why?
  3. What was consistently your weakest aspect/discipline of the season?
  4. What was consistently your strongest aspect/discipline of the season?
  5. Would you say you accomplished the goals you’d set out for yourself at the start of the season? (Assuming you DID set some goals 🙂 To what degree?
  6. In the areas where you didn’t reach your goals, what were the reasons?
  7. Did you do too much of anything in your training? Too little?
  8. Did you incur any injuries? Do you know why they happened? Were you wise in your rehab and healing?
  9. How did your equipment serve you this season?
  10. What equipment do you need to upgrade this off-season?
  11. Looking back, what are your greatest take-aways and lessons learned?
  12. What are you going to do differently next season based on your answers to each of these questions?
  13. What discipline should you work on most during the off-season?
  14. Based on this season, do you need to work on Mo.B.S. during the off-season? MObility, Balance and Strength?
  15. What races from this season will you repeat next season? Why? What are your initial thoughts/goals as you think of how to improve in those?

While there could be even more questions to explore, these are a great starting point. By taking the time to work through each one, you’ll set yourself up for productive reflection over the next few months and a stronger start to next season. Enjoy the journey!
