Kick off your fall with a truly amazing gravel bike race: Fred’s Paper Route Gravel Bike Race!
Fred’s Paper Route was created to honor Fred, who is still delivering newspapers on his cruiser bike at the young age of 70+ in Griswold, Iowa. This is a gravel cycling event sanctioned by USA Cycling.
For 2017, we have to race options:
Gran Fondo A Gran Fondo is a type of long-distance road bicycle ride originating in Italy in 1970, and roughly translates into English as “Big Ride.” The first few US Gran Fondos events were organized in 2009. The course is 35-mile loop course starting and finishing at Griswold High School. Check out the course map.
Fred’s Gravel and Dirt Duathlon is an 18 mile out and back bike course followed by at out and back 5K run. The terrain and distance keep you on your toes, and the rolling fields are stunningly remote and beautiful. The rest is pure Iowa gravel! Check out the course maps:

Each racer receives metal mug. At the end of the event, racers will enjoy a free post-race chili meal, including beer and root beer.
Registration opens at 11 a.m. and the race starts at noon. Parking is available at 53169 Dogwood Rd, Griswold, IA 51535.
